I have a fascination with PBS television personality Huell Howser (host of "California's Gold" among other series). His appeal is complex; when I try to explain it others, I find it rather difficult. He brings to his interviews a folksy innocence; a naivety. He asks silly questions to anyone in his immediate proximity (old lady bystanders are a favorite subject for interviews). He is interested in EVERYTHING - not just interested, but utterly fascinated. And while this description might make him look rather disingenuous, if you spend any time watching his shows you will realize he is 100% sincere. And his sincerity wins me over every time. It doesn't matter how boring a subject may seem; if Huell Howser is doing a show about it, I will find myself interested in it.

Essentially, Huell embodies the fundamental good lying dormant in the heart of all humans. Unlike 99% of people I have met, his persona is completely without airs, pretension, cynicism. He is how I wish all people were. "Huell" is a sonic tribute to Mr. Howser which uses samples of audio from his shows as well as music I composed. The piece explains a complex idea - why I like Huell Howser - in a way that is more direct and representative of the man himself than my verbal or written explanation could ever be.

UPDATE: Offiicially Huell Howser approved, as of 1/5/2010. Thanks for the phone call, Huell!
